Listening is a skill that all of us can be better at using, especially me. I hear a lot of "noise" everyday. I have conditioned myself to need that noise; to make it sometimes easier to sleep, to just "zone out", to have in the back ground when we come home from work, etc. I find myself turning on the television, even though I am not watching it, because I like the "noise". I have also been to several BIG, bustling cities, that you ALWAYS hear "noise". We condition ourselves, so much, to have this noise, that, once we have it, we tune it out. I sincerely hope that we truly listen and not "tune out" ourselves and others. That we truly listen to those around us. That we exercise that listening muscle and "tune in" to the important things in life, like family, friends, loved ones, and those things that matter to each of us.
